i saw the other post but wasnt sure how recent it was, i was just wondering because at http://spellborn.acclaim.com/
it says "The Chronicles of Spellborn is an amazing MMORPG where players take the role of heroes in a post-apocalyptic fantasy setting and a vast adventure unfolds in an authentic living world. It's FREE to register and play. Sign up for BETA now!"
by free to register and play does it mean in the beta only? or is acclaim making it free to play in general.

Hmm, that is a bit shady wording by Acclaim. As far as I know the game was not going to be free to play. But that was a year ago before Acclaim got involved. Maybe things have changed, but I doubt it. It is probably just a trick to get you to sign up. Which I think you should do. It is a pretty cool game from what I have seen, heard and read about it.

Beta is free because you're expected to be testing, not just playing the game, and there's no guarantee you get in.
In addition to the regular beta, Acclaim has announced they will put up a free-to-play zone of the Spellborn world for US customers.
Look at that as a perpetual free trial. Odds are this means a newbie zone. So you'll be pretty limited in what you can do, but it's free. I doubt you'd be able to keep yourself entertained with a newbie zone for months though. Full game will have a monthly fee as I understand it. Dunno about what rate. Probably market rates or slightly lower.
Haven't heard anything about Frogster doing the same in Europe.
News article with commentary by Acclaim's big honcho David Perry.
