How do I make a URL my avatar, other than saving it? Is it possible? If not, why not?
It's a GIF format, so that's not a problem. Unless it is.

Tenn, I read your question a couple of times but I am still not sure what you ask exactly. So I'll give you two answers. Hopefully one of them is the right one :)
Option 1: How do I make a URL of my avatar?
In that case the answer is www.gameamp.com/modules/core/user_avatars/76979_Tenn_avatar_20060425210051.jpg.
Option 2: How do I make a new GIF as my avatar?
In that case it is probably our network playing jokes on you. You probably went to Account Images and tried to upload your new gif avatar. But it doesn't show up. This could be because the gif is too big. But more likely the system is a bit slow when it updates avatars. Retry a few times. Pressing Ctrl-F5 does seem to help too.

If you're asking about making an avatar straight from an image's URL, you can't do that here. You have to save it image on your PC first, then upload it in the account images section.
GIFs as avatars aren't an issue, just make sure it is under the size limit, which I think is 32kb. Yeah, like Phedre_D said.
One thing I've noticed, is if it is actually too large, you don't get an error, it just reloads to a blank area on the screen where the upload info was. Also, sometimes your avatar doesn't change right away and that's where you can do the ctrl + f5 like Phedre said.

Aaah, I see the light. Blackphoenix has it completely right. As usual. Now I get what you were asking.
Yeah, you can't have a URL as avatar since it actually uploads the the image in stead of using it. I think one of the reasons to do this is because everybody needs to be able to see your avatar. Maybe somebody has no access to that url. It could also be a speed issue. Getting the images from our own server is a lot faster than retrieving them from a remote site.

Also having the image hosted on Gameamp means the picture will never not be there. We know you will always have access to it. There are a lot of sites that tend to dissapear, or loose the image.
